Civil Engineering Company of 25 staff out sources their IT support to nTrust systems

This Company was attempting to keep their IT infrastructure maintained by themselves, using skills they picked up themselves over a number of years.

However, although they were very proficient and successful Civil Engineers, their core skills and main focus were not IT.

When they performed a detailed analysis on the amount of time they were spending on IT support they were shocked. The time that should have been charged to projects for Civil Engineering was being eaten up by IT support, as much as 80 % for some individuals.

Their decision was to out source their IT support to nTrust systems. We provided them with a fixed price contract, which allows them to budget carefully and motivates us to make the infrastructure as robust as possible, to reduce the number of call outs.

We made substantial improvements during the first 12 months, which included -

• Closed holes in their network security that was allowing spammers to send 10,000 e-mails every day from their server. The client was unaware.
• Replaced their ageing NT4 server estate, with technology that will see them future proofed for the foreseeable future. All done over a weekend with no impact on the users service.
• Installed a new firewall to replace their previously unmanageable one. At the same time installing a new router and a wireless network that although was not asked for is now used everyday.
• Installed a Virtual Private Network to allow away from office connectivity.
• Upgraded their network to utilise DHCP and DNS.
• Installed Anti Virus systems properly, so they update detection levels as well as regular scans.
• Performed previously ignored MS Windows updates on a regular basis, to close yet more security holes.
• Audited Licensing levels and assisted in reaching compliance.
• Assisted in procurement, sometimes through us and sometimes direct with other suppliers, but always maintaining that the best purchases were achieved.
• Provided statistical analysis to prove that previous hardware purchasing decisions were ill advised, and worked together to produce an agreed strategy for the future.

They are very pleased with our service, their engineers concentrate on chargeable projects, their Infrastructure is robust and virus free, whilst all the time they have someone who cares watching over them.
